Tuning the Maruti Ciaz

"Cheers for reading our Maruti Ciaz tuning guide."

The Ciaz is a awesome project car to play with. We see lots of DIY modders wasting money on their Ciaz doing the wrong mods and then having to start over. Follow our pointers to avoid making the common mistakes

We look into Ciaz tuning and provide tips on the best upgrades. Maruti Ciazs are popular cars and with the ultimate tuning enhancements you can noticeably improve your driving enjoyment.

Handling/Suspension upgrades

Many Ciaz owners uprate the handling of their cars with tuning suspension modifications as a priority, this will certainly increase your enjoyment of the car.

Adding a little negative camber at the front and around 1 to 1.7 degrees of toe in to improve stability or toe out for better cornering, will substantially improve your Ciaz in handling and cornering.

We would go to a maximum drop of 21mm - 42 mm. on most models. You risk handling compromises if you go lower than this.

Our aim in Ciaz engine tuning should be to increase peak power and Torque at the top end.

Enjoy your Ciaz to the max with our solid tuning advice - do the right mods in the right order.

Smaller engines do not provide much of a return in terms of power so start with a bigger engine. Engine swaps are a good option if you have a small engine size.

Tuning modifications.

These are the upgrades are usually carried out by our members, decide how far you wish to go in your tuning project before you get going.

  • 1.6 L I4 G-INNOTEC (petrol)
  • 1.4 L I4 K14B (petrol)
  • 1.5 L I4 K15B (petrol) (2018, India)
  • 1.2 L I4 K12B (petrol) (Thailand)
  • 1.3 L Fiat I4 (diesel)
  • 1.5 L I4 E15A (diesel) (2019, India)

Getting the best modified parts for your planned usage of the car is a time and money saver. Stage 3 competition upgrades just don't work well on the road making the car difficult to drive.

How to tune your car

  1. Improve the handling

Focus on Suspension improvements, such as coilovers and make sure the bushings are in good order and that the alignment is correct. Then focus on improving the brakes, with a big disk brake conversion kit and fast road brake pads.

  2. Remove restrictions

Focus on the intake and exhaust with filters being the common point of restriction in a tuned car. Intercoolers may also become restrictive on turbo engines so this may also need to be uprated.

  3. Burn more fuel & air

Increase the fuelling so it matches the air coming into the engine. The ratio is important so you need to improve the fuel pump and injectors, so the head mods, big valve conversions, fast road camshafts and forced induction upgrades extra supply of air is adequately met.

  4. Test and replace any weak parts

Weak areas are commonly the clutch, the turbocharger and pistons and crankshaft in a highly tuned engine. Makes sure these components will cope with your power aspirations.

  5. The Tune or Remap

A cars ECU controls the fuel, timing, spark and even the turbo in some cases, so to fully extract your gains you should remap the car last and this will fully release the power. Some cars are easy to map, and others require piggyback ECU's or aftermarket ECU's but this is the most vital step of your tuning project.

Modifying to Stage 1:

Sports exhaust, Lighter flywheel, Alloy wheels, Panel air filter, Remap, Suspension upgrade (drop 21mm - 42 mm.).

Modifying to Stage 2:

Ported and polished head, high flow fuel injector, Fast road cam, fuel pump upgrades, Power/Sport clutch.

Modifying to Stage 3:

Competition cam, Engine balancing, Sports gearbox, Internal engine upgrades (pistons/head/valves), Adding or upgrading forced induction (turbo/supercharger).

You should keep as much low end power as possible and aim to get a long power band across the rev range rather than a narrow top end power hike.

In this article we shall give an overview and introduction to the best performance parts for your car, but we'd encourage you to spend some time on the site looking into the details of each type of performance mod.Fast road cams offer one of the biggest performance gains for your money as far as a solitary motorsport mods goes on a NASP engine.

The intake and exhaust valve durations play a huge role in your cars power band, but be careful here, getting this wrong can upset the idle and make the car impossible to drive in traffic. You'd need to follow a cam upgrade with other mods and finish with a performance chip for the best performance gains.

When pushing up the power you will need to pay attention to to the fuelling. More power needs more fuel.

Using high octane petrol is another option if you find you are suffering from detonation or premature ignition on your Maruti project after fitting other sports modifications. Uprated injectors will enable you to supply sufficient fuel to the engine.

A fuel pump will only deliver a finite amount of fuel, so you may need to uprate this if your injectors are demanding more fuel.

Intake and Exhaust Tuning.

The next area for modification is the intake and exhaust. Please note that WE DO NOT FIND IMPROVEMENTS WITH INDUCTION KITS, unless you have tuned your car a lot and are finding that the standard air intake has become a limitation.

Maximum power gains come from a full induction kit with a cold air feed on heavily tuned engines, this can be sited within an air box but a panel filter should suffice for most applications. TorqueCars suggest you use a panel air filter as these are easy to clean and maintain and generally perform better than paper ones.

Do not go with the largest exhaust you can find this will slow the exhaust rate - the best for power gains are usually between 1.5 to 2.5 inches. It is the shape and material more than the bore size.

Getting a professionally flowed (ported and polished) head with larger valves can fully release the engines power. In nearly all cases of Ciaz tuning your clutch will start to fail and this needs to be uprated - read our tips on clutches for more information. The best mods we recommend for your Ciaz are Remapping or piggy back ecu, fast road cam and air intake and exhaust.

Turbo engines are just begging to be remapped. You will see significant power gains on most modern turbo engined cars including diesels making a remap one of the most cost effective and significant modifications for your money.Adding forced induction will see phenomenal power gains but this is usually too expensive to be cost effective. Turbos are often harder to add than a supercharger. With a turbo the power curve is related exponentially to the engine speed making it more challenging to map.

Superchargers however will give a boost which is directly proportional to engine speed so is easier to map. Decreasing the engines compression ratio will allow you to add forced induction, water injection may also help prevent detonation.

Alloy wheel upgrades.

The benefits of alloy wheels include a lower unsprung weight and more efficient brake cooling. Don't forget that your choice of rubber greatly affects your cars grip and handling. It is not worth compromising performance with cheap tyres when you can buy soft compound performance tires. The drawback to large rims on your Ciaz is that you're changing your effective final drive ratio and this will have a negative effect on acceleration.

Although some people have with bigger wheels without issues we would stick to a 18 inch rim size as the maximum.
