Ford Mondeo Tuning

"Mondeo to Frideo"

A popular fleet car there are now plenty of Mondeos finding their way into the market at very reasonable prices. Not intended to be a performance car there are actually plenty of things you can do to increase driver enjoyment of the car.

Firstly many TorqueCars memebers with a Mondeo uprate the handling of their cars as a priority, this will certainly increase your enjoyment of the car. We suggest that you fit uprated suspension and lower the car by 30-35mm. Larger drops require arch work - especially on models already equipped with sports suspension.

Top end power should be your overall aim on the Mondeo with a nice fat peak torque band.

Enjoy your Mondeo to the full with our tuning tips - turn the mundane into something special.

Smaller engines do not provide much of a return in terms of power so start with a bigger engine. Engine swaps are a good option if you have a small engine size.

Ford Mondeo Tuning tips.

Don't forget to uprate the fuelling when you are increasing the power - it makes the car more thirsty.

A fuel pressure boost valve will make the car more responsive and respond better. Uprated injectors will enable you to supply sufficient fuel to the engine. Fast road cams offer one of the biggest performance gains as far as a bolt on part goes.  A fuel pump will only deliver a finite amount of fuel, so you may need to uprate this.

Ford Mondeo Intake and Exhaust mods.

Breathing mods are usually next up. Maximum power gains come from a full induction kit. On small engines you will actually lose low down power so we suggest you use a panel air fitler instead. Do not go with the biggest exhaust you can find - the best for power gains are usually between 2 to 2.5 inches.

In nearly all cases of Mondeotuning your clutch will start to slip and this needs to be uprated - read our article on clutches for more information.

Ford Mondeo Wheel modifications.

The benefits of alloy wheels include a lower unsprung weight and more efficient brake cooling. The downside to large alloy wheels on your Mondeo is that you alter your effective final drive ratio and this will have a detrimental effect on performance. Although some people have gone larger we would stick to a 16.5 inch rim size as the maximum.
